The Kensington Expressway replaced what had been a grand, tree-lined boulevard – Humboldt Parkway – with a below-grade highway that cut through the heart of the surrounding neighborhoods in East Buffalo, tearing a beautiful community apart.
Now, we’re righting that wrong.
This project includes building a tunnel to carry a portion of the expressway between Dodge Street and Sidney Street and creating a tree-lined median on top of the tunnel, providing approximately 11 acres of new, publicly accessible greenspace.
The project will also include rehabilitating and resurfacing local streets and replacing sidewalks, traffic signals and lighting. The end product will greatly enhance safety for all users and provide easy, safe access though East Buffalo.
The impact of these improvements? More space for children to play. Safer streets for walking and biking. A Route 33 that meets the needs of its community.
